This new supermarket model is great. It encourages community and thoughtful shopping rather than mass consumption. Modern supermarkets are designed and organized to keep shoppers in the aisles for as long as possible and meant to funnel them through to make it so they buy the most stuff. This store model is small and circular, with labyrinthine aisles to discourage long shopping trips and impulse buys. People will be more likely to plan out what they need to buy ahead of time and therefore buy less and waste less.
The store would also include a garden for extra food production and lots of bike racks to encourage clean commuting. It’s a bold idea and I hope someone picks it up and runs with it!
